Through personal stories, ecological insight, and lessons gathered over decades of working alongside California Indigenous elders, she invites readers to slow down, rediscover wonder, practice reciprocity, attune to natural cycles, and see the living world in new ways.

About the Author

M. Kat Anderson is an ethnoecologist, writer, gardener, and gatherer whose work focuses on restoring relationships between people and native ecosystems. She holds a Ph.D. in Wildland Resource Science from UC Berkeley and has spent more than 25 years learning from Native American communities and exploring the connections between Traditional Ecological Knowledge and Western science.

She is also the author of Tending the Wild, an influential exploration of Indigenous land stewardship and its role in biodiversity, cultural restoration, and resilient ecosystems.
