Downtown Davis Holiday Celebration on Thursday, December 1, 2016

The 35th annual downtown Davis tree lighting and holiday opening will take place on Thursday, December 1 beginning at 6:00 p.m. The community is invited to take part in one of Davis’ oldest community traditions which includes the children’s candlelight parade, the holiday tree lighting in the E Street Plaza, Santa and Mrs. Claus greeting guests, performances by local musical groups, horse-drawn carriage rides and free showings of “The Grinch” at the historic Varsity Theatre.

Parade:  The annual Children’s Candlelight Parade has been sponsored by the Davis Food Co-op for over two decades. Parade participants will begin lining up at 5:30 p.m. at the Co-op at 620 G Street and the parade steps off at 6:00 p.m. following a Unitrans double decker bus and a fire truck. Walkers, strollers, wagons and bicycles are welcome and festive holiday lighting on parade entries is encouraged.

It is recommended that families who drive to participate park in the free public parking structure behind the Signature Stadium 5 Theatres at 4th and G streets. No parade parking is available in the Food Co-op parking lot on G Street.

Free candles with safety drip cups will be provided to children participating in the holiday parade courtesy of the Davis Food Co-op. Voluntary donations to the Wallace & Vannucci Women & Children’s Shelter will be gratefully accepted at the Food Co-op prior to the parade.

2014 Downtown Davis Window Decorating Contest Winners

Local businesses helped bring downtown Davis alive with lights and color in an effort to win top honors in the 2014 Davis Downtown Window Decorating Contest.

Twenty-six businesses participated in the contest this year, creating window and storefront displays with lights, ornaments, and Holiday themed decorations.

Our secret panel of judges explored downtown Davis, visited the participating businesses, and selected three for top honors.  At the same time, fans of participating businesses went online to cast their vote for their favorite window storefront as part of the 2014 People’s Choice Award.

Winners for the 2014 Davis Downtown Window Decorating Contest are:

  • First Place – Fleet Feet at 615 2nd Street
  • Second Place – Ken’s Bike Ski Board at 650 G Street
  • Third Place – Outdoor Davis at 623 2nd Street
  • People’s Choice Award – Fleet Feet at 615 2nd Street

Our judges had these comments of our winning storefronts:

Fleet Feet – “Fleet Feet captured the holiday season perfectly with colors and lights, incorporating them into a Charles Schulz theme! With the clever use of robotics, they made the display more entertaining. Congratulations to the best window in Davis!”

Ken’s Bike Ski Board – “Classic Davis bicycle theme! Clever use of gears to ornament the tree. Beautiful lights and employees-as-elves! Thanks for adding holiday cheer in your beautiful display!”

Outdoor Davis – “Outdoor Davis was original and creative in their holiday window display.  They did a fabulous job of incorporating their merchandise and festive decorations into a humorous and catchy arrangement!”

Fleet Feet also took top honors in the 2014 People’s Choice award with close to 18% of the 314 online votes.

“This is a fun contest that brings a little more excitement and a little more Holiday spirit to downtown Davis,” said Stewart Savage, Executive Director of […]
