Safer Davis 2023 is the second round of a grant program offered by the Davis Downtown Business Association (DDBA) that will award grants of up to $5,000* each to improve safety and security of businesses through Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED). Some examples of security-improving upgrades that may be made to businesses are lighting, security cameras, signage, fencing, window/door upgrades, repairs, and landscaping/hardscape. Deadline to submit a grant application is August 18, 2023.
What is CPTED?

Who may apply?
The program is open to all DDBA members. If you are a property or business owner within the Downtown Business Improvement District (DBID), you are a DDBA member.

How to apply (please read carefully and follow ALL steps in order):

Email the Davis Police Department’s Crime Prevention Unit (crimeprevention@cityofdavis.org) to arrange for a CPTED Assessment Consultation to be conducted at your place of business. The deadline for having a consultation conducted was July 21, 2023, and has passed.

After completing your CPTED Assessment Consultation, obtain an estimate(s) from a contractor(s) and/or obtain estimated equipment and supply expenses to complete the work on some or all recommended improvements.

Complete and submit a Safer Davis 2023 Grant Application online OR print and mail a copy to the DDBA by August 18, 2023. Choose one of the following options to fill out and submit the application:

*Program Details: Program ends August 18, 2023; the completed Safer Davis 2023 Business Grant application package must be submitted to the DDBA by August 18, 2023. Please follow the application process detailed above. All grant applications will be evaluated; recipients will be selected by a judging panel and officially notified by email within 15 business days after the application deadline. Recipients will have 7 business days to respond to this official notification, otherwise an alternate recipient(s) may be chosen. Grants are subject to funding available. Limit of one grant per business. Grant recipients will be announced publicly. The improvements related to each grant must be completed within 60 days of the grant award; if the work is not completed within that time frame, the grant may be canceled and an alternate recipient(s) may be selected. The grant payment will be in the form of a check or e-payment to reimburse each recipient after the work is completed; each grant recipient will be required to submit a copy of receipts and paid invoice(s) for all improvements to: DDBA, P.O. Box 72497 Davis, CA 95617. Completion of the improvements may be verified. Photo release: Grant recipients agree to allow the use of their official photos and name to be used in communications materials without limitation. Businesses that have not previously been awarded a Safer Davis program grant will be prioritized. Grant applications for eligible safety and security upgrades previously completed by businesses from January 1, 2023 to May 31, 2023 may also be submitted for reimbursement consideration. This program has been made possible through City of Davis grant funding.
